The International Link Class (ISK) of the Johan de Witt School Group is especially for students who have not been in the Netherlands for very long and who do not or hardly speak the language. We offer this education at the locations Glasblazerslaan, Vermeerstraat and the Helena van Doeverenplantsoen.
The students not only learn the Dutch language, but are also introduced to Dutch society and are prepared for regular education. This 'first care for foreign speakers' is aimed at a very diverse group of students, both in terms of background, previous education and learning ability.
Appropriate learning path
The Johan de Witt Scholengroep ensures a careful intake and places the students (temporarily) in the learning paths VWO/HAVO, MAVO, VMBO framework, VMBO basic, alpha or entrance. They will work on an intensive Dutch teaching program, including citizenship and art education. These subjects are supplemented with arithmetic/maths, physical education and English. Relatively little knowledge of the Dutch language is required for these subjects.
Study guide and progress discussions
The students work with study guides aimed at their follow-up path (pre-university education/havo, mavo/pre-vocational secondary education framework and pre-vocational secondary education basic) and receive three progress interviews. Here we discuss the expected level at the end of their ISK trajectory.
Flow
After a maximum of one year it is time for advancement. We examine in advance whether we can convert the provisional advice into a follow-up program (VO-ISK) within one of our regular secondary school courses. This is possible if the students have achieved a sufficient language and arithmetic level.
VO-ISK
VO-ISK is available at the levels HAVO/VWO, MAVO, VMBO framework, VMBO basic and VMBO practical education. We work with small groups within this process, so that students receive optimal guidance during the lesson
