vmbo-p

VMBO-p practical education

Are you looking for a good mix of learning from books and applying your knowledge in practice? Then the VMBO-P (practical education) of the Johan de Witt Scholengroep is something for you. In this course you will learn all kinds of practical skills. These will come in handy if you continue studying at secondary vocational education or go to work after obtaining your diploma. Consider, for example, skills in the field of technology, catering, sales & retail and services & healthcare.

Tailored

The Johan de Witt Scholengroep has beautiful, modern practical rooms: a large kitchen for learning to cook, for example, and a sales room where you can learn what it is like to work in the store.
We create an Individual Development Plan together with you and discuss this with your parents. This contains your goals and we record what kind of work you would like to do. This plan determines your learning route and we review it two to three times a year. We also use RTTI and OMZA. We use VMBO readers for the practical subjects.

In the first three years you will be introduced to all practical subjects, so that you can ultimately make a good choice for one of these practical subjects. You will specialize in this in order to prepare yourself for jobs of the future, in other words: jobs in which you can easily find work!

In addition to taking the practical subjects at school, you practice simulation in years 1 and 2. You will do an internship from year 3 onwards. Handy, because it allows you to practice situations that you may encounter at secondary vocational education and later in your work.

In the lessons we pay attention to the knowledge and skills you need during your internship, further training or as an employee. The first internships are in groups, then you work individually at different companies. Naturally, we will guide you step by step during these internships. This is done by our internship agency: trend watchers who arrange the best internships to help you gain experience in the jobs of the future!

Entrance diploma and/or Practical diploma

We follow your development very closely. If you have reached the correct level, you can start the internal entrance training in year 4 (which gives you access to MBO level 2). Otherwise you will obtain your practical diploma after five years. By then you will be on your feet, you know what you are good at and you are prepared for what is expected of you during your further education and in business.

Heterogeneous class of VMBO-P/VMBO basis

It could be that your level is on the border between VMBO-P/VMBO-B or that you are in a VMBO-P. The Johan de Witt Scholengroep has a solution for this: the heterogeneous first year VMBO-P/VMBO-B. In this bridge class, lessons are taught at VMBO-B level and you take the subjects Dutch, English and mathematics/arithmetic.

IB-MYP

IB education at the Johan de Witt Scholengroep

The Johan de Witt Scholengroep is a candidate school* for the  Middle Years Program  (MYP) of the  International Baccalaureate  (IB). In the future we want to become a recognized IB World School.

There are IB World Schools all over the world. These schools aim to educate students to become inquisitive, well-informed and caring young people, so that together they can create a better and more peaceful world. Of course, we want this too and that is why we will start with a MYP class in the 2022/2023 school year.

The MYP at the Johan de Witt Scholengroep is for students with a VMBO, MAVO, HAVO or VWO recommendation and focuses on students from 12 to 16 years old. During the MYP we encourage students to adopt an investigative attitude and to be socially involved. In this way, our students are trained to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers and doers.

The MYP is more than acquiring knowledge.  The emphasis is mainly on developing skills and characteristics that turn students into broadly oriented global citizens. the so-called 'IB student profile'  as a tool for this.

Knowing more? Then view our IB-MYP page.

entrance

Entrance

From the ISK trajectory and practical education it is possible to progress to the entrance training within the Johan de Witt School Group. The entrance training is a collaboration with ROC Mondriaan and we offer it at the Capadosestraat and Hooftskade locations. With an entrance course you will obtain an MBO level 1 diploma within one year.

Direction

Within entrance you choose a direction that suits your interests and talents.

  • Motor vehicle technology
  • catering industry
  • Services and care
  • Sales and retail
  • Building, living and maintenance
  • Metal, electrical and installation

The training consists of two parts: theory and internship. In the theory part you work on Dutch and arithmetic. You also fill your exam portfolio with assignments for the citizenship course.

Internship

You spend a large part of your entrance training doing an internship. Together we will ensure that you end up in the right place and discuss in advance what you want to learn. After completing your internship, we want to see that you have the necessary employee competencies. This means that you have to prove that you are a good employee and, for example, that you can work well together.

And after that?

With this training we prepare you for the labor market. For example, you can become a care assistant or an installation technology assistant. If you choose to follow a course at MBO level 2 after obtaining your diploma, you will already have a good foundation.

ISK

ISK

The International Link Class (ISK) of the Johan de Witt School Group is especially for students who have not been in the Netherlands for very long and who do not or hardly speak the language. We offer this education at the locations Glasblazerslaan, Vermeerstraat and the Helena van Doeverenplantsoen.

The students not only learn the Dutch language, but are also introduced to Dutch society and are prepared for regular education. This 'first care for foreign speakers' is aimed at a very diverse group of students, both in terms of background, previous education and learning ability.

Appropriate learning path

The Johan de Witt Scholengroep ensures a careful intake and places the students (temporarily) in the learning paths VWO/HAVO, MAVO, VMBO framework, VMBO basic, alpha or entrance. They will work on an intensive Dutch teaching program, including citizenship and art education. These subjects are supplemented with arithmetic/maths, physical education and English. Relatively little knowledge of the Dutch language is required for these subjects.

Study guide and progress discussions

The students work with study guides aimed at their follow-up path (pre-university education/havo, mavo/pre-vocational secondary education framework and pre-vocational secondary education basic) and receive three progress interviews. Here we discuss the expected level at the end of their ISK trajectory.

Flow

After a maximum of one year it is time for advancement. We examine in advance whether we can convert the provisional advice into a follow-up program (VO-ISK) within one of our regular secondary school courses. This is possible if the students have achieved a sufficient language and arithmetic level.

VO-ISK

VO-ISK is available at the levels HAVO/VWO, MAVO, VMBO framework, VMBO basic and VMBO practical education. We work with small groups within this process, so that students receive optimal guidance during the lesson.
